How to Put a Link in Instagram Bio, Five of Them Now

verified_against vendor-docs (the maker's own help pages, and nothing else) · verified_on · what these mean

Five is the ceiling now: the link in Instagram bio slot became a list, and the single Website box that guides still describe was replaced by a panel called Links.

Here is the current shape of the profile, with the numbers Instagram publishes:

Field Limit Editable on a computer
Bio text 150 characters Yes
Websites 5 Not per the help page

That right-hand column is the part to read twice, and I come back to it below.

Go to Profile, tap Edit profile, tap Links, then add the URL. The button label differs by platform, which is a small thing that explains a lot of contradictory instructions: Android calls it Add link and iPhone calls it Add external link. Confirm with Done. Removing one works the same way in reverse, by tapping the link and choosing Remove link.

Ordering is a separate control that most guides skip. From Links, tap Options, then Reorder links, then drag entries up and down and accept. Since the list renders under your bio text in the order you set, the top slot takes the taps, and leaving it to chance wastes the only piece of profile real estate Instagram gives you.

There is a sentence attached to the feature that the link-in-bio industry has no reason to repeat: Note: anyone, on or off Instagram, can see your websites. Off Instagram included. A private account does not privatise this list, so a URL that identifies you elsewhere identifies you to anyone who loads the profile.

The desktop gap is real and oddly specific

Open the help page for adding a website on a laptop and Instagram returns a device selector rather than instructions, with the line This feature isn't available on computers, but it is available on these devices. The only platforms offered are the Android and iPhone apps.

What makes this worth flagging rather than shrugging at is how narrow the gap is. The neighbouring page for bio text lists Computer among its platforms and gives full desktop steps: Edit profile, the box next to Bio, Submit. So the same Edit profile screen is documented for a computer for one field and undocumented for the field next to it.

Our own older guide sent readers to a desktop browser and called it the convenient option. Going by the documentation, the phone is now the supported surface for links, and the computer is the supported surface for the words above them.

Two paid additions arrived with the Instagram Plus subscription in June 2026, and both touch the same strip of profile.

  • Custom Bio Font, which changes how the 150 characters are set.
  • More Profile Pins, raising pinned posts to six.

Neither adds a sixth link. If five destinations fall short, an external landing page remains the only route, and that has always been the actual business of the link-in-bio services: not adding links to Instagram, but hosting a page that one Instagram link points at. Worth being clear-eyed about the trade, since it costs you a click and hands your outbound traffic to a third party before it reaches you.

The help page for the subscription still says it is not available to everyone, and the launch post notes that included benefits may vary, so treat both features as things to check for rather than plan around.
